Natural Looking Curls

Ok guys! I have been asked thousands of times about my hair! How I curl it? What products I use? Do I wear extension? Do I color my hair? And tons others. While I’ve been wanting to share this post for awhile I’m finally getting around to it! I will start off by listing my favorite products & why, then move on to on of my “go to” hair style.

ABOUT

First a little bit about my hair. I have super thick, coarse, and curly hair, AND tons of it! Let’s just say right after I had my baby a lot of my hair was coming out (which happens once in awhile) and I was almost relieved every time a clump would fall because I could afford to lose a little bit. I know, that’s terrible! I usually wash it 2 times a week and sleep with it wet. I would NOT dare of blow drying this mane! The next morning I will straighten it out. I will either leave it straight or curl it depending on my mood.

DO I COLOR MY HAIR?

I have colored my hair throughout my years. Mainly just highlights and then back to my natural color, it’s a vicious cycle. Overall, I prefer my natural color. I loath looking at pictures back in the day when highlights were all the rage and I thought looking like Sporty Spice with two chunks of blonde framing my face was cute! Oh the agony!

EXTENSIONS?

Do I wear them? YES! Not every day but I have no shame in my game when it comes to weave! I have long hair without them but I love that extra bounce & 2 inches of length they give me. I have clip ins and will only ever have clip ins. With how much hair I have I can’t imagine adding more! Clip ins allow me to take them in & out as I need! I have 22 inch. Send me an email at [email protected] if you’re interested in where I got them and I will get you more information. I have had the ones I’m currently wearing for a year & a half now! LOVE THEM! I will admit I am trying to get away from them a little bit especially with the summer coming up but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

PRODUCTS?

Well I’m not the type of person to give a lick about what shampoo or conditioner I use, is that bad? My sister who is a stylist would die! But I feel that I put some many things in my hair after I get out of the shower that I don’t worry about what I wash it with.

Hair Spray: Paul Mitchell Freeze & Shine Pump Hairspray. Since I have very dark hair it’s difficult for me to find a good hair spray that doesn’t leave a powered tint. I find this one works great for my hair – I mean I’ve been using it since 9th grade, I’m a loyal customer 😉

Leave in Conditioner: It’s a 10! Guys! It’s THE best! They have different formulas for different hair types. Thick & curly, Thin, and even Blonde! It’s amazing! I also love Big Sexy Hair Soy Leave in conditioner – this one is great for ALL hair types as well, it’s light but does a great job of conditioning!

Hair Oils: I love the Moroccanoil! My mother in law got it for me years ago and I’ve been using it ever since! I love it on the ends of my hair and use whatever I have left on fly-aways up top! I will say it’s a little heavy I would steer clear from it if you have thinner hair! The Moroccanoil can be a little pricey but I’ve also tried the Argon Oil from Sally’s Beauty & loved it just as much! It smells great, does a great job, and has a fresh scent.

Shine Spray: Shine Sprays can be so intimidating because you don’t want your hair to look oily, especially after you spent time on it! Rusk Shine Spray (Target) is my FAVORITE! This is another product I have been using since high school (as you can tell I stick to the things I like). It is more of an alcohol base so it will not make your hair appear oily but it will shine it up! It also smells so amazing, perfect for finishing your hair off!

I have linked most of the products I mentioned up at the bottom. They are mostly from Target or any beauty supply store. Ok so with all that said now on to one of my “go to” hair styles.

STYLING TIME

For this curl I am using a “bubble wand” I find that this gives me a natural look and easy! I will curl my hair pretty tight the first day and then sleep on it a couple days after only having to touch up the front with a regular barrel curling iron. This is one of my “go to” styles and makes it easy for me to be on the go the rest of the week!
I start will my these products.
Closer look at the labels
I start with apply a little oil to the ends of my hair
I work it through the ends by rubbing my hands together back & forth
I use whatever I have left over on my palms I smooth on the top of my head for fly aways
I pin my hair into sections for to give it more volume & dimension for curls
I hold my wand upside down
Wrap my hair around the barrel – in no particular way (it doesn’t matter if its not perfectly spaced)
Continue same process throughout my whole head (which is a lot)
I then take my 2 front pieces from each side and section them off
I use a regular curling iron on them to make sure they are more symmetrical
The 2 front pieces I hold in my palm for a second after I have curled them to make sure they hold throughout the day (you can also pin them)
I then tease the very top of my crown a little bit to add some volume
I tease the bottom up with a brush to make it full
Brush the ends of your hair up to get more bounce
Spray it to make sure it stays
 All over
Top it off with the Rusk Shine Spray
Finished product
I have added a couple pictures of times I’ve had this hair style.
